Lenny Rolles for Kent PCC
Lenny Rolles is standing as the Labour candidate for the Kent and Medway Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) in the upcoming elections on May 2. Born and bred in Kent, Rolles has been a stalwart of local community engagement, representing Gravesham as a councillor for over a decade. His extensive experience within the community, including roles such as chairing local partnerships and acting as a trustee for local charities, has equipped him with a deep understanding of the challenges faced by the residents of Kent.
“I am proud to be the Labour Party candidate for the Kent and Medway Police and Crime Commissioner Election,” says Rolles. “Having lived across various communities in Kent for most of my life, I am acutely aware of the needs and concerns of our residents. My experience as a cabinet member has shown me the severe impact of Conservative cuts on our community services, particularly policing and crime prevention.”
Commitment to Enhancing Policing and Reducing Crime
Lenny Rolles is passionately campaigning on key issues such as tackling anti-social behaviour, reducing serious crime, and improving trust and confidence in local policing. These priorities come in response to years of austerity under Conservative leadership, which Rolles argues has significantly weakened policing and crime prevention efforts in the region.
One of his main priorities is the creation of a Police Plan that resonates with the needs of Kent residents. “I will actively listen to our neighbourhoods and develop a policing plan that delivers for all—from the coast to the estuary, and from rural to urban parts of our communities,” Rolles promises. This plan aims to ensure that victims of crime receive the response they deserve and that trust in local policing is restored.
Addressing the PEEL Report Findings
Recent findings from the PEEL report by the Police Inspectorate HMICFRS have highlighted concerns regarding the police’s response to public reports of crime. Rolles has expressed his determination to address these issues promptly. “People in Kent need to know that all crimes they report will be investigated fully and in a timely manner,” he asserts.
Campaign Against Conservative Cuts
A significant part of Rolles’s campaign is dedicated to ending the Conservative cuts to Kent and Medway policing. He is advocating for better police funding to ensure that adequate resources are available for frontline officers and support staff, which are essential for effective community policing.
Broad Scope of Crime Prevention
Moreover, Rolles aims to prevent and reduce crime broadly, including anti-social behaviour and serious offences like violent and organised crime. His strategy includes partnerships with public and voluntary sector organisations to prevent crimes before they occur. Rolles is also focusing on combating domestic abuse and violence against women and girls, which he describes as often being a hidden crime.
Support for Retail Workers
Lastly, Rolles is keen on tackling retail crime and violence against shop workers. His initiatives aim to improve policing in town centres to create a safer environment for both shoppers and retail employees.
Lenny Rolles’s campaign for Kent PCC is built on a foundation of extensive local experience and a deep commitment to reversing the negative impacts of austerity on community policing. With a clear focus on listening to residents and addressing their concerns, Rolles is dedicated to making Kent a safer place for all.
